On February 9, 2022, the U.S. Department of Agriculture released its monthly global cotton supply and demand forecast, lowering global cotton ending stocks for 2021/22 by 152,400 tons, mainly due to a decrease in global production of 174,200 tons. India’s output was lowered by 108,900 tons due to the slow arrival of new cotton, which showed that the output was lower than expected. Tanzania’s cotton production was revised down by 75,100 tons based on the government’s updated planting area data. Due to the adjustment of historical data for Iran and Syria in recent years, global opening stocks and consumption have been slightly increased. Global opening stocks for 2021/22 have been increased by 52,300 tons, and consumption has been increased by nearly 43,500 tons. Global trade volume is reduced by 26,100 tons, mainly due to a decrease of 54,400 tons in imports from mainland China, although this is partially offset by an increase in imports from India. Exports are lowered for the United States, Brazil and India, partially offset by higher exports for Australia.
About U.S. cotton data: The U.S. cotton supply and demand forecast for 2021/22 shows that export volume will be slightly reduced, ending stocks will be increased, and output and factory usage will remain unchanged.
