Export product quality
Down clothing is one of the major categories of clothing exported by my country. It has the advantages of high added value in product processing, wide geographical adaptability, warmth, comfort, lightness and convenience, etc. It is favored by foreign customers and consumers. Low production and processing costs and excellent sewing technology have always been the main advantages of my country’s export of down clothing. However, in addition to the sewing quality and down content of down clothing and other products, governments of various countries attach great importance to the safety of down clothing.
Since 2001, the European Union, the United States and Canada have successively required microbial testing of down products exported from China. At that time, due to serious excessive microbial content, Chinese down and its products were returned many times over a period of time, seriously affecting international exports.
From 2004 to 2005, the avian influenza epidemic intensified on a global scale. While it caused a heavy blow to the global poultry industry, it also affected direct derivatives of poultry – down and its products.
Under this situation, China quickly revised the down and feather national standards “Down and Feathers” (GB/T17685-2003) and “Down and Feather Inspection Methods” (GB/T10288-2003), and introduced microbial detection indicators into them. , requiring the detection of four major microorganisms: mesophilic aerobic bacteria, Streptococcus faecalis, Clostridium sulfite reductans and Salmonella. The standard was led by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Food and Native Livestock, and jointly drafted by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Food and Native Livestock and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. It was officially promulgated and implemented on May 1, 2004.
At present, some well-known down clothing manufacturers in my country have made significant progress in using antibacterial and environmentally friendly textile fabrics and using new technologies and new processes to solve the key problem of excessive microorganisms in down.
Quality of domestically sold products
The quality of my country’s current down clothing is mainly authoritatively certified by the national technical quality inspection department. In order to protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers and promote the healthy development of the industry, the national quality inspection department generally organizes national supervision and spot inspections on the quality of down clothing products. In early 2006, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine conducted spot inspections in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Jiangxi, and Zhejiang. For down clothing products from 7 provinces and municipalities including Jiangsu and Jiangsu, the product sampling pass rate is 67.9% (export products are not involved). The main quality problems discovered during the random inspection are:
(1) The down content label of down does not match the actual down content.
The national standard stipulates that the down content of down clothing shall not be less than 50%. In this spot check, the down content of 9 products failed to meet the standards, and the test value of the down content of 2 products was zero. Some products use feather scraps as filler.
(2) The down filling is unqualified.
The bulkiness of down directly affects the resilience, warmth and comfort of down clothing.
(3) The color fastness of the fabric does not meet the standard requirements.
The spot check did not involve the safety issues of down clothing and products.
However, with the improvement of living standards, people have higher and higher requirements for health and safety while pursuing high quality products. As down and feathers are animal products, whether there are harmful microorganisms in them, especially microorganisms that can cause zoonotic infectious diseases, is one of the issues that people are concerned about. my country’s national standards for “Down and Feathers” and “Down and Feather Inspection Methods” have been revised and implemented on May 1, 2004. The new national standard adds regulations on down microbial detection methods and limit indicators.
