Recently, in the thousand-acre mulberry garden of Shannan Supply and Marketing Cooperative Jinniu Sericulture Farmers Cooperative in Feixi County, Anhui Province, more than 50 workers are pruning, pruning, and clearing ditches and drainage of mulberry trees to accumulate energy for this year’s sericulture production.
These workers are all local farmers, and many of them are households that have been lifted out of poverty. Wang Benyin, who lives in Jinniu Village, is one of them. Starting in 2019, he works in the cooperative for more than 200 days every year, earning more than 20,000 yuan a year. “In total, I have earned nearly 50,000 yuan in wages from the cooperative in the past few years.” Wang Benyin said.
Shannan Town is located in the southwest of Feixi, surrounded by mountains and rivers, with a beautiful environment. It is one of the major towns for planting mulberry and raising silkworms in the county. In the compound of the Jinniu Sericulture Cooperative, the words “Take the sericulture farmers to work and show it to the big households” are very eye-catching. “The slogan was written in 2018. Over the years, the cooperative has insisted on enriching the people through industry, which is to bring farmers to work together and make money together!” said Zhao Qihua, chairman of the Jinniu Sericulture Cooperative. In 2020, Jinniu Sericulture Cooperative purchased 1.6 million kilograms of fresh cocoons, with annual sales of more than 12 million yuan. The cooperative provides free production technical services to silkworm farmers, purchases seeds and seedlings, and purchases cocoon products at prices no lower than the market price, allowing silkworm farmers to produce with confidence and stabilize their profits. “Since 2013, we have helped 96 disabled households to engage in mulberry planting and sericulture. Now they are all proficient in practical skills in mulberry planting and sericulture.” Zhao Qihua recalled that due to different individual circumstances, it is very important for disabled people to talk about sericulture. Easy, but difficult to help. At the beginning, the cooperative visited households from house to house, learned about the situation, had heart-to-heart conversations, and solved problems in a targeted manner in terms of materials, technology, and ideas, which built their confidence and mobilized their enthusiasm. At present, the cooperative has 358 members, 97 households with disabled members, and 80 registered households that have been lifted out of poverty. The cooperative currently has 31 employees, of which 24 disabled employees are employed in the Jinniu Sericulture Cooperative.
In recent years, the Jinniu Sericulture Cooperative has also provided more than 20 free technical training sessions for sericulture farmers, and more than 1,600 people have become experts in sericulture technology. By guiding the surrounding people to plant mulberry and raise sericulture, the cooperative has increased the cumulative income of more than 1,000 local sericulture farmers by 30 million yuan, and is called “Technology 110” by local sericulture farmers. Nowadays, there are many farmers in Shannan Town who use the deserted hills and ridges to plant sericulture, and the sericulture area has increased from 7,000 acres in 2000 to more than 10,000 acres.
“Mulberry trees are full of treasures, and mulberry leaves also have edible and medicinal value. This is also the future development direction of Jinniu Sericulture Cooperative.” Zhao Qihua introduced. Today, the Jinniu Sericulture Cooperative cultivates 12 varieties of fruit mulberries and fruit-leaf dual-purpose mulberries for sericulture and mulberry picking. It also promotes three new varieties of mulberry leaves and actively explores the production of mulberry leaf tea, mulberry processed products and high-quality silk quilts. and other products, and registered and used the trademarks “Xiaojingzhuang” and “Jinniu Sericulture” to extend the industrial chain, increase employment, promote integrated industrial development, and build the cooperative into a sericulture cultural ecological park, Xiaojingzhuang sericulture technology demonstration park, and sericulture assistance industrial park A comprehensive industrial park integrating “three parks”.
In Feixi, there are many cooperatives like Jinniu Sericulture Cooperative. It is reported that there are more than 60 farmer cooperative economic organizations of various types led by the Feixi County Supply and Marketing Cooperative. In order to support various local farmers’ cooperative economic organizations to become bigger and stronger, in 2021, Feixi County Cooperative will use the “I Sell Things for Farmers” activity as a carrier, and join forces with a number of agricultural-related departments in Feixi County to host, undertake, and co-organize multiple activities. In various forms, we will continue to carry out activities to bring high-quality agricultural products to communities, open up channels for agricultural products to go upstream, and help farmers solve the problem of “difficulty selling” of agricultural products. “Every year, the county society selects different professional cooperatives for joint assistance. The leadership team of the county cooperatives leads the team, and each person pairs up to help 5 professional cooperatives, conducts surveys and research on the assistance objects, and helps them solve the problems encountered in development. , such as helping qualified cooperatives apply for ‘New Network Project’ funds, ‘Benefiting Farm Loans’, etc., to make up for the funding gap in cooperative development.” Hou Jingya, director of Feixi County Rural Cooperative Economic Organizations United Cooperative, said.
In the next step, Feixi County Cooperative will continue to vigorously establish various farmer cooperative economic organizations, join hands with the local party committee and government, and jointly support them through projects and policies to become bigger and stronger, so that cooperative economic organizations can truly become It is the “ballast stone” for farmers to steadily increase their income and the source of power to promote rural revitalization.
