Printing can add many smart patterns to the monotonous color of the original fabric, bringing a different visual enjoyment to the fabric. When these fabrics are used in home textiles, they will also add more freshness and happiness to daily life. Therefore, printed fabrics have also become the first choice for many home textile fabrics.

The color fastness of printed fabrics is not only related to the color depth, but also to the pattern structure. The color fastness of large-area patterns in deep and dense colors is generally poor. This article focuses on analyzing the reasons for poor color fastness of reactive dye printing, and summarizes some empirical methods based on the color fastness mechanism.

Advantages of reactive printing

Reactive printing fabric is environmentally friendly, has low formaldehyde content, bright color, and good color fastness. It feels soft after printing and the printed parts are not sticky. No azo and formaldehyde are added, no substances harmful to human body, and it will not fade or shrink when washed.

Reasons for poor color fastness of active material printing

1. Since the fixation rate of reactive dye printing is low, unfixed dyes (including hydrolyzed dyes and dyes that have not reacted with fibers) on the fabric must be removed by sufficient washing and soaping.

2. There is an intermolecular force between the unfixed dye and the cotton fiber, so some of it will still remain on the fabric after soaping.

3. The covalent bonds between some reactive dyes and cotton fibers are affected by external conditions and are prone to bond breaking and hydrolysis. These are important factors causing poor color fastness.

An effective way to improve color fastness

1. Control printing paste viscosity

When printing with reactive dyes, especially for large areas of deep and dense colors, the viscosity of the color paste should be slightly thinner to allow the color paste on the surface of the fabric to penetrate into the interior of the fabric, which facilitates the transfer of the dye from the color paste to the fiber surface during the evaporation process, and Diffuses into the fiber to increase the fixation rate of the dye, thus improving the color fastness.

2. Pressurized optical screen version

Press a light net behind the large-area pattern of dark and dense colors to help the color paste penetrate into the fabric. The principle is the same as above.

3. Print soaping

Reactive dye printing uses secondary soaping.

4. Padding cross-linking agent

Cross-linking agents have more than two reactive groups, which can not only react with fiber molecules, but also cross-link with hydroxyl, amino and carboxyl groups in dye molecules to prevent the shedding of reactive dyes and improve friction fastness. At the same time, the cross-linking agent becomes a bridge between the fiber and the dye, fixing the unfixed dye and limiting the transfer of the dye, thereby improving the color fastness to perspiration and color migration fastness.
