Sanitation has two meanings: antibacterial (bacteria, fungi) and anti-odor. . The Tokyo Metropolitan Industrial Research Institute in Japan uses mustard to develop anti-mildew products. It uses cyclodextrin as a carrier to coat the mustard and apply it to bedding.
In view of the adverse effects of some organic antibacterial agents on the human body or the environment, people have begun to turn to inorganic antibacterial agents, among which the most effective are silver-based antibacterial agents. Some people apply silver powder crushed to about 4nm to the fabric. The fine silver powder can penetrate into the fiber and exert an antibacterial effect.
The National Dyeing and Finishing Engineering Technology Research Center of Donghua University applies sol-gel to antibacterial finishing of fabrics. This method first pads the silica sol onto the cotton fabric, and then forms a porous gel on the fabric through appropriate treatment. Then immerse in the AgNO3 solution, so that Ag+ is encapsulated into the pores of the silicone gel. The fabric buried through the above process has a good antibacterial effect, and its washing resistance is related to the Ag+ concentration and treatment conditions. According to measurements, when the silica sol-treated fabric was soaked in 0.3×10-3mol/L AgNO3 solution for 30 minutes, the antibacterial ability of the fabric against E. coli reached 99.99%. After 50 washes, the antibacterial effect remained 99.55%.
As we all know, clothes, shoes and socks, etc. often emit odors. This is caused by the amines produced by certain bacteria that decompose human secretions, such as sweat. If the bacteria are killed, the odor will not be produced. Therefore, the effective way to deodorize is antibacterial, but if you use some porous materials with adsorption capacity, such as zeolite, cyclodextrin, activated carbon, etc. to treat the fabric, it will also have a certain deodorization and anti-odor effect.
